MBABANE – Women Farmer Foundation (WFF) Field Officers have attended a two-week training at Dicla Training and Farming in South Africa.

This publication has gathered that the officers were capacitated on hydroponics, tunnel farming and general farming to keep them relevant in any field in this constantly changing world.

Eswatini also has an ongoing initiative of training the youth on tunnel farming, and it is expected that the Field Officers will come back with additional information and enhanced skills to help.

A 2022 report by AGRIFOOD SA states that tunnel farming has been so far been proven to be the best kind of farming mainly because farmer can produce crops in and out of season because of the controlled conditions with tunnel farming.

“Farmers can also use tunnel farming to grow crops that will normally fail under open field condition. They can sell the produce at a higher price than they would normally do with the normal crops. They can also do the same with the crops that are produced out of season through tunnel farming,” reads the report.

Director of WFF recently said that the aim of these initiatives is to encourage youth entrepreneurship and contribute in the economy of Eswatini. Such trainings will help the youth in agriculture to stay active in business, in and out of season.
