MBABANE – The Minister of Education Lady Howard has presented the Form 5 Eswatini General Certificate of Secondary Education (EGCSE) results and they are mildly different from the preceding ones.
For one, Minister Howard announced that “The number of students who sat for these EGCSE exams increased by 40,08% to 28,072 when compared to the previous year where they were 19,931. Nonetheless,” she continued, “the number of students who did not sit for the exams also increased.”
“The pass rate in 2021 was 93.01%, but the credit rate did go down by 1.32% as compared to the 2020 exam. The credit rate by region was such that Hhohho had 33.22%, Lubombo had 33.34%, Manzini had 33.51%, and Shiselweni had 31.97”, added the Minister.
Minister Howard also shared that there were 25 students who got six A+’s and that there were 21 students who got 5 A+’s.
Here is what some of the top students had to say:
Mcebo Gcina Dlamini of Mhlume High School said “I believe my results are because of the commitment and passion of my teachers. I had no choice but to meet them halfway. My passion is in Commerce, so I will be pursuing a career in that field. To my peers, I want to tell them to work hard and know that they are not doing this for anyone but themselves.”
Setsabile Tsandzile Myeni of St. Anne’s High School said “I owe my results to my hard work and determination, but mostly to the Grace of God. I had to make sacrifices and even abstained from social media on the weeks leading to my examinations. Instead of continuing with online lessons which the school was offering, I decided to take physical study sessions because I realised being online would be a distraction. I would like to advise my peers to love their books and most of all pray. I would like to study Medicine because the human body just fascinates me.”
Andiswa Simphiwe Dlamini of Evelyn Baring High School said “I think I am a nerd because I just love books. My favourite author is Danielle Steel. I come from an extended family and I am a Christian. My marks are a result of hard work. I pushed myself extra hard during the prolonged school closure; spending my time studying and following online tutorials. My mom is a teacher and she linked me with some of her colleagues. I would advise my peers to always push themselves and not for teachers and parents to push them. I would like to study Engineering in Forestry because this is one of the most unsaturated fields.”
