NDUNAYITHINI – “It is important for women’s sports to get the same support as men’s sports.”

These were the words of Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Pholile Shakantu when presenting a sponsorship of E30,000 to the Sigwe Netball team today. The minister made the presentation at Ndunayithini on behalf of Eswatini Network of Women.

The minister observed that the effort men and women put into sports is comparable, and therefore it was important that women are not left behind in capacitating their activities. She also encouraged other sponsors to contribute to such initiatives as they are positive for the country. Sigwe Member of Parliament (MP) David Ngcamphalala thanked the minister and Eswatini Network of Women.

“When you bring a child towards sports, they develop discipline, and that is the first benefit. The second thing is that as young people play, they get closer to the umphakatsi, which is us who work with them – not as a wild place. They get to look at it as a place where they can bring their issues to be discussed when they arise,” said the MP when being interviewed about the donation.

He further encouraged the youth to avoid counter-productive activities, and further urged the youth to stay active in sports as a measure of promoting their health.
