MBABANE – Prime Minister Cleopas Sipho Dlamini says the newly launched Parliament website a Strategic Plan “signify the commitment and passion that Parliament and all Strategic Partners have to do Parliamentary work with integrity, transparency & accountability, which is what our System of Government promotes.” The PM has been speaking when officially launching the two tools in Matsapha today.
The Parliament website can be accessed via: https://parliament.gov.sz/. The development of the Strategic Plan has been supported by UNDP Eswatini & the University of Eswatini. A total of 31 stakeholders were consulted in the development of the Plan, locally and beyond. The Parliament as per the new Strategic Plan is: ‘To be a model people-centred Parliament that delivers qualify life for all emaSwati.’
Speaking on the new Parliament Website, Prime Minister Dlamini said, “As we embark on the journey of digitising the way we do business in Parliament, our work will now be known, not only in the Chambers but globally. This is in the spirit of good governance in demonstration. Government has invested in ICTs to ensure this possibility & that every liSwati has access to information through the use of ICTs.”
Remarking on the new Parliament Strategic Plan, the Prime Minister “It is a Roadmap that will bring about change, both internal and external. Internal, because we believe that implementation of this Plan will start with addressing administrative Parliament systems as well as procedural systems, which need constant revisiting. The Plan also focuses on tackling external factors that inform how Parliament works, such as the ever-evolving economic, political and social environment.”
“We would not have succeeded in coming up with this clear roadmap without the support we received through our partnership with UNDP. We want to extend our sincere appreciation to them for always availing themselves to support Government initiatives, which they have done over many years. To all our strategic partners, we thank you for your contribution and technical support towards this achievement,” added the Prime Minister.
Senate President Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini also remarked that, “Inclusiveness always bodes well for unity and development. The Strategy provides insight on the strengths of the institution and opportunities. The website will be a very important tool in the implementation of the Strategy. It is a way of creating visibility and accessibility of Parliament to local, regional & international stakeholders.”
UNDP Rep Rose Ssebatindira: “I am encouraged that the Parliament Strategic Plan that is about to be launched, if effectively implemented, will enhance the regulatory and fiscal environment needed to accelerate progress towards reaching the SDGs targets.”
