MBABANE – A grand gesture!
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) gifted Eswatini with Ghaf trees, among other Africa countries, in celebration of 50 years of relations on mutual respect and benefit with the countries as a gesture of cooperation and keenness to strengthen ties.
Cote d’Ivoire is one of the countries that benefitted from UAE’s celebrations.
UAE started gifting the countries about two months ago and completed the exercise on Monday, when this information was made public.
In Eswatini, some of the trees that were received were planted at Malkerns Research Centre, as the trees are regarded a treasure.
Minister of Agriculture Jabulani Mabuza said the UAE and Eswatini were both Kingdoms and it was no surprise that the two enjoy cordial relations.
“In 2021, Eswatini fully participated in the Dubai Expo, which participation was jointly facilitated and supported by the two Kingdoms.
“His Excellency Prime Minister had very fruitful engagements with business and potential investors at the expo. Eswatini is truly grateful for all the support,” said Mabuza
Mabuza said too mark this important occasion, the UAE has donated seedlings of their most special tree, the Ghaf tree.
According to Mabuza, the tree is a national tree of the UAE and has many uses including animal feed, soil fertility improvement and general protection of crops against the scotching sun.
“Seedlings, by their nature, symbolise the future. From one seed or seedling, can grow a forest or even an agricultural industry or value chain. It is in this regard, that we view this gift as an investment and support to the future and well-being of Eswatini.” According to Environment Agency Abu Dhabi website, the Ghaf is a drought-tolerant tree, which can remain green even in harsh desert environments. It is essential for the survival of animal and plant species alike. The Ghaf is the national tree of the UAE as it is a historic and cultural symbol of stability and peace in the UAE’s desert environment.
Congratulations to the Saudi Eswatini relations. How i wish such diplomatic relations can bear fruits especially in fighting youth unemployment and research. Some of our people need postgraduate scholarships.
