MBABANE – Eswatini police have been hailed for arresting two alleged ‘hitmen.’
Though it had earlier been reported that the two suspects were linked to the assassination of hip-hop artist AKA, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has reported told TimesLive that the two ‘hitmen’ were not linked to AKA’s killing.
However, Mkhwanazi is quoted to have said the suspects face charges of murder and attempted murder where a man, who was a passenger in a vehicle, was shot dead in Berea on March 6 last year.
The driver of the vehicle survived the shooting and managed to drive to a fuel station in Berea where she sought assistance.
The SA publication reported that investigations led to the suspects being traced to where they were hiding in Eswatini.
Mkhwanazi is said to have thanked the authorities in Eswatini for their commitment to eradicate cross-border and transnational crimes that threaten law and order in neighbouring countries.
Mkhwanazi said while he acknowledged AKA’s death was a matter of public interest nationally and internationally, police would notify families of the dead and then the public through the media of any developments.
On Friday, the Royal Eswatini Police rounded up the two hitmen inside a rented house in Manzini and arrested them.
The accused persons are Siyabonga Ndimande and Malusi Ndimande who are from Durban. They made their maiden court appearance at the Manzini Magistrate Court and were remanded in custody pending their extradition.
Meanwhile, social media platforms thanked the Eswatini police for the arrest, saying the level of alertness was impressive.
