MBABANE– The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) have made major breakthrough in a number of cases
This was confirmed by Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati.
She mentioned that, two men aged 28 and 30 of Nginamadvolo and Nsangwini respectively were arrested in connection with armed robbery case where a 28 year old man of Mnyokane was robbed five cell phones valued at E5 058 and E1 600 cash while at Mnyokane.
“A 44 year old man of Tikhuba was arrested in connection with a theft case where six broadcasting amplifiers valued at E1 200 000 were stolen from a transmission site while at Mangwaneni,” said Vilakati.
She further mentioned that a 60 year old man of Mahlabaneni was arrested for being found in possession of a 12 bore short-gun loaded with 12 live rounds of ammunition without a licence or permit while at Mfabantfu area, while two men aged 20 and 22 of Matsetsa and Mpaka respectively were arrested in connection with house breaking and theft case.
A 19 year old man of Mahhonwane was arrested for being found in possession three (3) live rounds of ammunition without a licence or permit while at Mahhonwane.
She also mentioned that a 49 year old woman of Ludzibini was arrested in connection with two Arson cases where she set alight three houses and a motor vehicle (a grey Toyota RunX) all values at E118 780.00 while at Ludzibini.
Meanwhile in a bid to heighten efforts to protect the economy, consumers, investors and the country as a whole from financial crimes, the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) and the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) have signed an agreement to strengthen working relations.
The two entities created a partnership alliance by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) mapping out areas of cooperation and collaboration. The purpose of the MOU which was signed during an event held at the Hilton Garden Inn is to establish, strengthen and promote partnership with quality assurance between the Police Service and the ESRA.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the National Commissioner of Police Tsitsila Dlamini said the agreement will accentuate efforts to safeguard the economy, consumers, investors and society as a whole from financial crimes which is one of the primary mandates of the Police Service.
He noted that FSRA is a leading stakeholder entity and strategic partner that complements the Police organisation in safety and reliability.
“The signing of this MOU serves as a symbol of our resolve and commitment as well as recognition for the improvement of mutual cooperation and information sharing towards strengthening the fight against financial crime, money laundering and the funding of terrorism,” said Dlamini
The Police Chief revealed that the agreement seeks to promote the ease of sharing expertise, capacity and information on various levels of financial services activities on aspects involving both the Police and FSRA.
He noted that this will enable both entities to discharge their respective statutory obligations efficiently and effectively through implementing sustainable strategic plans.
PSRA Chief Executive Officer Neamiso Ntshalintshali noted that sophisticated advancements and developments in the financial services space have necessitated collaboration and cooperation with other entities as opposed to working in isolation.
