ESWATINI TO CELEBRATE OLYMPIC DAY ON FRIDAY

MBABANE – Eswatini will be among the over 150 countries to celebrate the Olympic Day with the first edition on June 21 at Prince of Wales Sports Ground, Mbabane.

The second edition of the event will be held on June 29 at OlympAfrica Centre, Lobamba.

The celebrations are hosted by the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) in conjunction with the Municipal Council of Mbabane.

EOCGA announced that there would be nine sporting codes that those to attend will engage in.

The sporting code are the 5km and 10km run, aerobics, boxing, taekwondo, gymnastics, skipping rope, table tennis, sitting volleyball and fun games among others. The games are open to all people of ages and it is free to participate. The games will start at 8am to 2pm in both venues.

“Ignite your passion, embrace the challenge, and celebrate Olympic Day! Lets Join in and celebrate This Day Together, on June 21, at the Prince of Wales Stadium,” reads a statement from EOCGA.

June 23 marks the International Olympic Day, which is observed annually to commemorate the founding of the IOC. International Olympic Day is celebrated annually on June 23rd, to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the International Olympic Committee in 1894.

This year’s edition will be special as it will be held same year with the Olympics Games to be held in Paris, France from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
