MBABANE – The Kingdom of Eswatini has been selected as the host of the 15th biennial Scientific Conference and the 7th quadrennial General Assembly for the Eastern, Central and Southern African College of Nursing (ESCACON).
Dr Gcinile Buthelezi, Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee revealed that this is a good opportunity for local nurses to learn more about specific diseases which are prevailing now, as well as other illnesses which could arise. She revealed that they have to deal with such situations on the daily, hence they should learn frequently.
“As health practitioners, we want to learn everyday. We work a lot with science, which has shown that it changes sometimes. For example, we saw during COVID that health practitioners had to learn. There are new ailments which are coming up which they must study better. It also makes us happy that there’s been a lot of research done by health practitioners, especially by nurses who have shown eagerness to attend the workshop. As Emaswati, we hope that their work will be successful and they’ll get to share success stories with the world,” said Buthelezi.
Speaking on behalf of ESCACON, President Keogetse Kgwabi. She said “When we show professional excellence through trainings, we show it through renewing and reviving skills knowledge.” She added that ESCACON hosts the biennial conference is “because we have to share ideas and best practices. Nursing is both an art and a science. As an art and science, we need to revive and renew – we cannot just learn one thing because it is dynamic and changing”.
