On 21 July 2021, EU Ambassador to Eswatini, Esmeralda Hernandez Aragones, hosted a farewell lunch for editors and journalists from all the media houses in the country. The lunch, held at Hilton Garden Inn in Mbabane, was in honor of the Ambassador’s imminent departure from Eswatini at the end of her four-year mission to the country.
During the event, Ambassador Hernandez Aragones acknowledged the important role the media plays in society. She underscored the importance of freedom of expression and the press, which are values the EU also shares. She said no society can achieve socio-economic development without a free press.
The Ambassador also hoped Eswatini will build from recent political events in the country in order to chart the way forward through an all-inclusive dialogue.
