MBABANE– If you are from Lubombo Region and a fanatic of skateboard, here is a lifetime opportunity.

The European Union (EU) has partnered with the Youth Employability Support (YES) Project to fund skateboard lessons.

The first community to receive this fund is the Mndobandoba.

This was revealed in a meeting held in the community yesterday. In fact, skateboarding was introduced as one of the activities that will be incorporated into the Project.

The new sport will be facilitated by liSwati Skate Director, Jason Martins who stated that they will create awareness of the sport and training.

Sought for comment, Martins disclosed that Skateboard parks will be built per region around the country. He said the central skate park will be in Mbabane Corporation Park.

“The skate parks will become meeting spaces for youth and kids through skateboarding. This will help revive skate traditional games in both rural and urban areas.

“On weekends, I offer skateboard lessons to children young as five to teenagers. I usually do this at Pine Valley. It is a skill I feel like every child should have access to and I cannot wait to see more children in Eswatini riding their skateboards all around town,” Martins said.

He further thanked the EU for supporting the program, stating that it will benefit a lot of children in different communities in Eswatini.
