MBABANE – The European Union Film Festival has announced the dates and films for this year’s festival.
The 9th instalment of the European Film Festival will be hosted by the Alliance Francaise in the country from October 21 to 23. Speaking to Eswatini TV today, Director of Alliance Francaise de Mbabane Ronan Coquel remarked this year, the festival has been attended to Eswatini and Lesotho.
“We used to have three editions before that, in 2014, 2015, and 2017 just in Eswatini. So I think it is more interesting to do it in several countries, it also gives us more visibility,” said Coquel.
Coquel added that the EU Film Festival existed because there was a history of wanting to promote cultures and inter-cultural dialogue by Europe in general.
“I think it is very interesting to see, on the certain themes, different movies from different cultures. We are going to have European ones but also African ones, with some movies from Eswatini and Lesotho, just to understand each other better.”
The festival will feature two slots for Eswatini movies on Friday and Saturday. In total, there will be seven films that will be showcased from around Europe, and two of them are African films. The Eswatini movie which will be shown is the 37 times award-winning ‘Liyana’ movie.
The event is especially recommended for local film-makers, actors, and producers. EU Film Festival Liaison Welile Nxumalo also confirmed that there would be two other surprise local movies which would be screened in the local satellite of the festival.
