MBABANE – “It is  unfortunate that some people could victimize others just for exercising their fundamental right to vote, which is enshrined in the Constitution of the country and supported by the United Nations. Victimization of registered voters was against the right to freedom to vote, which was encouraged globally,”

The above sentiments were shared by the Chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission, Prince Mhlabuhlangene who warned against victimization of emaSwati who registered for elections.

He was responding to concerns raised by some of the registered voters in relation to the ongoing voter registration validation process.

The concerned citizens felt that they would be subjected to victimization as the preliminary voter registration was accessible to anyone.

The chairman said every individual had a right to either register to vote or not. He said those rights were limited to individuals who had no right to either threaten or victimize others for exercising their own rights. He encouraged the nation to participate in the ongoing voter registration validation exercise. He reminded the nation that the general elections had phases, such as registration, validation process, nomination, primary and secondary elections.
