MANZINI – “Through God and prayer, everything went well.”
These were the words of Manzini Municipality’s Returning Officer Gordon Mbuli when speaking about the entire process of the local government elections in Manzini.
Mbuli was speaking at a press conference yesterday following the announcement of election results from this weekend.
“As the town of Manzini, we are very grateful that through God and prayer, as well as the work we put in as the different groups we were working with, everything went well for us,” said Mbuli.
“We did not see any missing ballot papers, we did not start or close late, and this was all due to the cooperation in the municipality. As the returning officer, the municipality assisted me with everything I needed throughout this process,” added Mbuli.
Mbuli also expressed that these elections were an improvement in gender representation, as three women were elected as councillors among the 22 elected councillors, as opposed to only one woman in the previous term. The councillors are expected to take office as soon as they swear their oaths
