MBABANE- The acting Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Jabulani Mabuza has urged the youth to explore STEM careers in the country.
STEM is the acronym for Science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Mabuza was speaking today at the certification of the Job Shadow program under the Energy sector at the George Hotel.
The JS (Job Shadow) program which is run by Junior Achievement had 40 students, both male and female from 27 different schools.
The students were attached for 10 days with 9 different companies that have STEM careers in their operations.
“This program aims to ensure that more females explore the energy sector and take a career in it.
“There are more males than females in this sector which is why gender mainstreaming and equality in the Energy sector must be practised,” said the Minister.
Junior Achievement Executive Director Phetsile Masilela thanked all the companies who participated in the project and further encouraged them to mentor students attached to them through their tertiary education as they look to be employed by them.
