MBABANE – In an effort to alert the public against fake social media pages, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade has advised all Emaswati to stay informed by using only trusted official Government channels for information on programs and grants.

The Ministry issued this warning this past Sunday, after a fake Facebook page of the Ministry started circulating. “The page, which is circulating on Facebook, is not associated with the ministry and should not be relied upon for information,” said the Ministry on its original Facebook page.

It is stated that the fraudulent social media page is exploiting the hopes and dreams of hardworking Emaswati who are simply trying to find business opportunities and improve their lives. The page is making false promises about non-existent grants, and the ministry has urged people to be aware of such scams.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade has warned the public about the dangers of false information and scams on social media. The ministry advised members of the public to exercise caution when browsing online, and to be aware that only the official Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade Facebook page is legitimate. The ministry also advised that any job opportunities and updates are only shared on official channels and the Eswatini Government website. It warned against falling for scams or relying on unofficial channels for information.

The public urged to protect themselves by verifying the authenticity of all pages and accounts claiming to represent the ministry. If a page or account claims to be affiliated with the ministry, take the time to confirm that it is an official channel before trusting any information shared. By exercising caution and verifying information, individuals can avoid being misled or scammed. The ministry stressed the importance of vigilance and scepticism when browsing social media platforms.
