MBABANE – Food production boost.
The Taiwan Technical Mission has held a course to capacitate farmers on how to produce passion fruit, strawberry, dragon fruit, and guava.
A report made by the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund stated that the people of the Kingdom of Eswatini rely heavily on agriculture for their livelihood. Due to poor local agricultural production Taiwan Technical Mission had to train the farmers on cultivation.
“The Eswatini Fruit Tree Production and Marketing Program (Phase Two) in collaboration with the local government has created an extraordinary one-day course focusing on how to cultivate passion fruit, strawberry, dragon fruit, and guava. This aims to equip agricultural officials and farmers with the essential skills and insights for successful fruit tree cultivation”, reads the
report.
It is said that this was one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) under the Fruit Tree Production and Marketing Project (Phase II) in a newsletter provided by Taiwan ICDF. According to a Facebook post made by Taiwan in Eswatini, this was not an ordinary course because it included hands-on demonstrations. Participants not only got firsthand experience with cultivation techniques but also learned practical fruit tree cultivation skills. These skills are crucial for nurturing and maintaining fruit trees.
The organisation also promised that they would do the preparations for the tree cultivation together.
“Together, we will tackle the unique challenges of fruit tree cultivation in the region, including land layout, fence construction, water resource management, and pruning techniques. These skills will help you enhance fruit yield and quality, contributing to a more sustainable agriculture. Let’s explore the beauty of fruit trees and work towards healthier agriculture and communities together”, reads the post.
