MBABANE– New broom and the mandate has not changed.

Nsingizini Hotspurs have announced Meck Mwase as their new Head Coach and mandated him to finish within the top four brackets. Former Malawi’s ‘Flames’ and Mbabane Highlanders replace Gerald Phiri at the ambitious Shiselweni-based side and was unveiled on Thursday at Equinox Restaurant in Mbabane.

“As a club, our target is to finish within the top four brackets. In the remaining seven games, the target is to achieve that and win any knockout tournament that might be introduced,” said Mthokozisi Ngobe, Nsingizini’s Finance Director and Management Committee Chairman.

Mwase in his introduction asked for emaSwati to pray for his country Malawi which has been hit Cyclone Freddy in recent days leaving a trail of destruction.

“I’m honoured to be part of Nsingizini. I don’t know much about the team but I’m happy to be back in Eswatini,” Mwase said.

The last time Mwase was in the country, he was a point away from winning the MTN Premier League with Mbabane Highlanders and he said he was not under pressure to repeat that feat.

“I’m joining a club with a lot of ambition, I don’t know much about the club but I have been following Eswatini football but clueless on how good the other teams are.”

Mwase added that there was progress in a local football though admitting that we are not up there with the best as a continent.

Ngobe said parting ways with Gerald Phiri was mutual and performance based. Mwase was in the initial shortlist to take over the club at the beginning of the season but a deal never materialized, instead settling for Phiri. “We have assembled a very good squad and we are confident that coach Mwase will take the team to greater heights,” he said.
