FNB Eswatini Foundation has donated E500 000 to government for the completion
of the oxygen plant at The Luke Commission.
The Luke Commission (TLC) is a local NGO in the Kingdom of Eswatini that
provides comprehensive medical care to under-served populations through mobile
hospital outreaches and at a centrally-located fixed facility.
When presenting the money on Monday, FNB Eswatini Foundation Chairperson
Dennis Mbingo said they hope that other businesses will throw their weight behind
long-term solutions in the improvement and strengthening of the country’s health
system.
Reacting to the donation, Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi said government is
forging ahead with plans to establish more oxygen plants across the country.
The minister mentioned that another similar plant was already under construction
at Lubombo Referral Hospital. She disclosed that plans were underway to
construct bulk oxygen plants at Nhlangano Health Centre and Mbabane
Government Hospital to increase local production capacity.
“These plants will provide oxygen not just for COVID-19 but for other ailments
including snake-bites which result in a significant number of deaths annually that
could be prevented. These plants are a great investment for our future health.”
Meanwhile, The Luke Commission Executive Director Echo VanderWal said, “We
are so thankful to the FNB Eswatini Foundation. Oxygen is a critical tool for the
care and treatment of COVID-19 patients. We are so honoured to receive this gift
that will benefit emaSwati.”
