MBABANE – Fully repaired!

The Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) has restored operations at Edwaleni Hyrdo Power Station in the Manzini Region following a pipe burst that took place in August.

According to a statement released by the company on their social media platforms, EEC spent about E1.5 million in fixing 40 meters of the 59 year-old pipe.

This publication went on to interview Khaya Mavuso, EEC Marketing and Communications Manager, who confirmed that the pipe was now operating at its full capacity and everything had been restored.

“The repair took place in a month’s time and the pipe was operationalised this month meaning that the pipe is currently fully functional and is assisting in generating power at 100 per cent now.

“No households were necessarily affected by the pipe burst since the hydro power station continued generating power from the Ferreira Canal even though it was done at a 60 per cent capacity,” said Mavuso.

According to the EEC website, Edwaleni Hydro Power station is among the two other power stations, Ezulwini and Maguduza, which benefits from Luphohlo Dam as its key water supply. The Luphohlo Dam is built on and is supplied by the Lusushwana River. Water supplied by the dam to the Ezulwini hydropower station is utilised further down by the Edwaleni hydropower Station and then finally by the Maguduza hydropower Station.
