MBABANE – Autism Eswatini is calling upon organisations to help it raise funds to help children suffering from autism, as well as those with certain intellectual challenges.
Autism Eswatini has launched a fundraising campaign for its Autism Challenge, a 4km hike aimed at raising funds to provide therapeutic services to 255 children and individuals with Autism and intellectual disabilities.
The organisation has extended an open invitation for schools, companies, churches, and individuals to take part in a walk at on April 6, 2024, starting at 6:30am at Tfutjana Mount Resort, Mkhondvo, kaKholwane. Participants can register for a fee of E5000 for a group of 20, E2500 for a group of 10, and E250 for individuals.

The proceeds will be used to fund therapeutic services for individuals with Autism and intellectual disabilities.
The funds raised from the event will also be used to improve the sensory room in the organisation’s office. This room will benefit a range of children and individuals, including those with Autism, intellectual disabilities, social/emotional challenges, and those who are deaf or nonverbal. The sensory room uses equipment and specialised sensory input to develop a person’s senses
According to Mvubu, if access to therapeutic and special services is increased, individuals with Autism and intellectual disabilities will see improved outcomes. The quality of life for both individuals and their families will be improved, as families will have greater understanding and acceptance of their loved ones.
The goal of the Autism Challenge (4km Hike) is to raise funds that will strengthen support systems for 255 individuals by 2025 through the following measures strengthening the One Stop Centre for Autism, Raising awareness of Autism and intellectual disabilities, while reducing stigma and discrimination and Building communication skills. This can help them focus, relax, and prepare for learning and interaction.
