GCEBILE PRESENTS AWARDS AT NALEDI THEATRE AWARDS

MBABANE– A proud moment for Eswatini to see one of their own on the big stage presenting awards in South Africa.

Local actress Gcebile Dlamini, now based in Johannesburg, had the privilege and honour of presenting a few awards at the Naledi Theatre Awards, which were held at the Joburg Theatre Complex in Braamfontein, South Africa.

When speaking to this publication, Dlamini shared that she presented a few awards, namely Student Production, Best Choreographer and Dance in Physical Theatre, and Best Student Theatre Award. She said, “What an honour. Thank you, Naledi Theatre Awards, for this one. These opportunities give you hope to remember that you are on the right path and that someone somewhere is watching you, cheering for you, and believing in you. The economy is tough, but we cannot give up yet.”

It is worth mentioning that Dlamini also won a Naledi award back in 2015 for the Community Theatre Award.

Dlamini is currently playing a role as Hilda on the SA soapy Scandal, which airs on ETV weekdays at 7.30 p.m. on Channel 194. Last month, she marked a year since she joined the most-watched TV soap opera, Scandal. It is the second-most-watched soapy, following Uzalo. The series is watched by at least 4433177, according to TV SA stats released last month. It was created by Gloria Medupe.

Dlamini has acted on Judge Thenjiwe, Housemates, Skeem Saam, Abangani short stories, short films, as well as directing backstage. She is also is a drama mentor at Dumisani Masilela Theatre and director at Johannesburg Independent Community Theatre.

She is also a director and a writer, drama mentor at Dumisani Masilela Theatre as well as director at Johannesburg Independent Community Theatre. She is also a former drama facilitator at the Outreach Foundation Hillbrow Theatre Project.

This week, Dlamini will be travelling to Cuba. She has been selected to represent the International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People (ASSITEJ) at the International Congress in Cuba! This is an incredible opportunity for the artists to collaborate with Cuban artists and young people.
