MBABANE – Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has shared that among the many issues she holds dear is gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen said this during her tour of the Mbabane Government Hospital’s Referral and Emergency wing.
“So, I am very happy to have a kindred spirit here in Her Majesty the Queen Mother, who is doing her utmost to raise the level of economic empowerment for women in Eswatini,” said the President.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Lizzie Nkosi said they were grateful to Taiwan for assisting His Majesty in putting new energy into an institution that is more than 100 years old.
“The generosity of the people of Taiwan has played a massive role in changing the face of the city of Mbabane,” said the Minister.
Worth mentioning is that the hospital is one of many projects supported by Taiwan in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Taiwan and Eswatini have enjoyed 55 years of diplomatic relations. Cooperation is in various fields, including health, education, agriculture, trade, women empowerment and development, among others.
President Tsai said being able to stand in the beautiful country again and witness Eswatini’s continued growth and development, makes her happy.
“I have great pride for everything you and your people have accomplished and how I have overcome difficult circumstances. As close friends, we share similar goals for the future. We both care deeply about young people and their education, which form the bedrock of any society,” said the President.
