MBABANE– Eswatini record label Aeriel Empire hosted the first season of Glocal Up which is now down to their 12 finalists.
Glocal Up is a competition that focuses on developing and grooming upcoming artists in the Kingdom of Eswatini through professional branding, that enables musicians to fit into international stages and give them a platform to showcase their talent.
EPN Entertainment Desk sought out information from Mkhuleko Mangwe from Aeriel Empire on Glocal Up.
“Aeriel Empire has been running for a year and when we launched the competition at Ikhayalethu Studios in Manzini where artist were selected and 138 artists made it. From then for phase two, 50 were selected to for studio sessions,” said Mangwe.
Mangwe further mentioned that they had challenges with studio sessions, stage battles and social media branding because of the number of artist they had to manage.
“We have overcome those challenges because we have a small group to work with now and that give us more time to work and focus on the artists,” said Mangwe.
Mangwe further revealed that the competition is unique from the other five episodes in the sense the top 12 finalists will be allowed to explore any genres, have free lyrical creativity, artists can use their stage names and also perform an original song.
“The winner of the competition will be featured on Haem-O who is a South African-based liSwati who has worked with artists like Emtee and also performed at a gig hosted by Toxic Entertainment,” said Mangwe.
Mangwe revealed that the winner will get a six month professional photo shoot with Ikhayalethu Photography, perform at the Epic Gig 2023 and will also get a recording deal for six months with Aeriel Empire.
