MBABANE – The Government of Eswatini has committed to continuously improve road safety and eventually moving towards zero road accidents and serious injuries by 2063
This message was conveyed by Minister of Public Works and Transport Chief Ndlaluhlaza when he accepted this prestigious honour, on behalf of the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini.
The Kingdom of Eswatini has been awarded the Kofi Annan Road Safety Award 2023 under the Road Safety Management category.
Receiving the award at the second Edition of the awards ceremony held in Marrakech, Morocco was Chief Ndlaluhlaza.
The Awards aim to refocus African leaders’ efforts towards reducing road accidents and have been held under the theme: “Digital Transformation and Innovations for Safer Roads.”
“Eswatini publicly committed to the road safety action points of the 2nd Global Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 on the 22nd June 2022. Prior to this, the country had ratified the African Road Safety Charter in 2020 and is aligned with the Intergovernmental Agreement on the Trans-African Highways,” he said.
In addition he said Eswatini is grateful and sincerely thanks the trustees of the Kofi Annan Road Safety Award for proposing us for the award in the Road Safety Management category.
“This shall indeed give us more strength and determination to ensure achievement of the Strategic Actions in the recently launched Eswatini National Road Safety Strategy,” said the Minister.
