The Kingdom of Eswatini has extended warm congratulations to His Majesty King Charles III for his ascension to the British throne. King Charles’s ascension follows the passing of long-reigning Queen Elizabeth II on September 8. King Charles is the eldest son to the late Queen of Britain.
The Kingdom’s well wishes were passed in a statement released by Prime Minister Cleopas Sipho Dlamini through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. His Excellency the Prime Minister remarked that, “The Kingdom of Eswatini remains confident that under your reign, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will continue to flourish, and maintain peace and stability which it had always enjoyed.”
He added that, “We firmly believe that our longstanding cordial relations will continue to be enhanced and strengthened even in years to come.”
The Kingdom’s cordial relations with the UK date back to His Majest King Sobhuza I, Eswatini’s first king post-UK independence. It remains to be seen whether His Majesty King Mswati III will attend King Charles’ coronation, as King Sobhuza II attended Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953.
The official coronation of the new British monarch is yet to be announced.
