…Somhlolo refurbishment now at 85 per cent

MBABANE – The Government through the Ministry of Home Affairs has made sure that preparations for the 55/55 run smoothly for the benefit of the whole event.

Preparations for the highly anticipated 55/55 double celebration, which marks both His Majesty King Mswati III’s birthday and Independence Day, are in full swing, reaching an advanced stage.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Home Affairs Communications Officer Mlandvo Dlamini who said, as the nation eagerly awaits the grand event, the Somhlolo National Stadium, where the festivities will take place, witnessed a flurry of activity as various cultural groups conducted their rehearsals.

Speaking with Devis Zwane, the entertainment coordinator overseeing the event, it was revealed that all participating groups are nearing completion, with an impressive 90 percent readiness for the momentous occasion.

“The performers lined up to showcase their talents include poetry recitals, Lutsango, Imbali and Sibhaca (traditional dances), promising a rich and vibrant cultural extravaganza,” said Zwane.

In addition to the diligent preparations of the performance groups, significant efforts have been made to renovate the Somhlolo National Stadium in time for the national celebration.

The stadium’s refurbishment, which began sometime ago, is now 85 percent complete, instilling confidence that it will be fully ready to host the momentous event on September 6,2023.

“The renovations carried out in the stadium encompass various aspects, including infrastructure improvements, seating arrangements, and aesthetic enhancements. The aim is to provide a comfortable and visually appealing environment for the attendees, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all,” said Dlamini.

Worth mentioning is that, the upcoming 55/55 double celebration holds immense significance for the nation, as it commemorates both the monarch’s birthday and the country’s independence.
