MBABANE- Open conversations on male infertility will no longer be a taboo!
This will be through the Ministry of Health and other partners, who have increased talks on male infertility.
Male infertility is the inability of a man to start a pregnancy with his female partner.
According to the Ministry of Health’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Unit Infertility Coordinator Mgcineni Ndlangamandla, the ministry has been robust in its means to educate emaSwati men on male infertility.
The ministry, in collaboration with World Vision, Eswatini Business Health and other entities, has travelled throughout the country, educating men on infertility.
“We have visited entities like SMVAF, SOS Village, PSPF, ETA, Environment Authority and many others- educating male staff members.
“Also, in collaboration with World Vision, we visited many Shiselweni chieftaincies, including Sigwe, Mantambe and Gege,” said Ndlangamandla.
He also said they have been numerously featured on TV programs and EBIS1’s ‘Nawe Unadokotela’ show.
When asked why the ministry was being robust in the campaign, he said they were aiming at curbing gender based violence cases brought about by male infertility.
“Men are increasingly becoming infertile because of their lifestyle and this can impact on their livelihood and their home.
“Alcohol consumption, smoking of dagga and cigarette and consuming drugs is becoming the main factor in the increase in male infertility. Another huge factor is obesity, which can be dealt with,” said Ndlangamandla.
He encouraged men to be wearier of their lifestyle, saying curbing some habits would correct infertility.
