MBABANE – Good news for motorists in the country.
Government has launched an e-Payment system for the renewal of vehicle licence discs aimed at improving efficiency and up scaling service delivery. The platform, done with MTN Eswatini, will allow owners to conveniently make licence discs renewal payments from anywhere, at anytime.
Minister of Public Works Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe said government is taking full advantage of mobile telephony e-payment platforms that can be accessed by hundreds of thousands of emaSwati at their fingertips to improve access to public services and ease the cost of access.
“The owners of about 80000 registered private and commercial vehicles in Eswatini can now make all vehicle license related fees payments through their mobile phones,” he said.
The minister continued: “This, we believe, will go a long way in ensuring that citizens have ease of access to government services, by improving convenience and safety, and saving on travelling costs and time; putting emaSwati first.”
Meanwhile, MTN Eswatini Chief Executive Officer Wandile Mtshali said: “We appreciate government’s commitment and leadership in the digitisation of Eswatini, an aspiration that’s close to our heart as MTN. One key lesson from this process is that there is power in partnerships that support delivery of innovations.”
To access the service, vehicle owners simply have to enter *468# on the MTN Eswatini network and follow the prompts from the convenience of their homes or work places, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. The licenses can then be collected at the nearest service centre.
This new platform builds on another similar service for business licenses launched in August which can also be accessed via *468#.
