MBABANE– The current shortage fuel situation in the country is a ‘private’ matter.

In pursuit to establish when the fuel shortage situation would be rectified in the country, this Eswatini Positive News (EPN) reporter learnt that the Government of Eswatini was not privy to those details as they were not implicated in the matter.

Worth noting is that the country has been facing fuel shortage since Christmas Eve, which was a day after fuel prices were slashed. Diesel went down by E2 and petrol went down by E1.50 effective December 23, 2022.

Locals were under the assumption that people were excited about the decrease in prices hence the shortage; however, the situation became devastating after the fuel shortage elapsed to after Christmas Day.

In effort to get clarity on the matter, Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Communications Officer Sikelela Khoza said the ministry could not make a comment as the matter did not implicate government.

“We can only be implicated if there is a crisis and oil plants are shut down. This seems like a private matter that we cannot intervene in or make comment on,” said Khoza.

When asked if the fuel price decrease influenced the shortage, Khoza said he doubted it did.
