GOVERNMENT WARNS AGAINST FAKE GRANT PAGE

MBABANE – The Government of Eswatini has put out a stern warning to the nation that a Facebook page purportedly belonging to the Minister of Finance is fake and the contents therefore false.

The said fake page, using Minister of Finance Neal Rijkenberg, is calling upon people to apply for grant funds worth $500 million.

Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo said the Nation is urged to follow official Government social media accounts for accurate Government updates.

“GRANT APPLICATIONS! Applications are opened following the grant funds worth $500M we received from the World Bank. This is a joint collaboration with the World Bank and Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) to boost trade, entrepreneurship, and Investment in our country. This initiative is also targeted to promote technology, innovation, and develop new and existing markets for our goods and services in all sectors of the ecc through the link,” said read the fake post circulated.

This is not the first time the government of Eswatini is faced with fake pages and untrue information. In the past the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office has been used in luring the elderly to share their grant money.

Other companies that have had fake pages being circulated include Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC), Nercha and World Vision Eswatini among others.
