GOVT BUILDS, REHABILITATES 631 HOUSES IN SEVEN MONTHS

MBABANE – With seven months being in office, the 12th Government has managed to build and rehabilitate 631 houses.

This progress, which might be impressive among many Emaswati, has been revealed by Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini today during the Cabinet/Eswatini Editors Forum Breakfast Meeting. The meeting was held at Mountain View in Mbabane.

“Government has rehabilitated and constructed at least 631 houses for the poor and the elderly since November 2023. A total 85 new houses were constructed,” Dlamini said. He further mentioned that the Ministry of Tinkhundla Administration and Development, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development were working on the Local Government Bill to operationalise decentralisation.

On the other hand, Government and the state-owned enterprises, according to the prime minister, were actively engaged in negotiations and exploration of partnerships for generating electricity, especially to provide the required base load. Several solar energy generation projects were on the pipeline after approval and would soon be commissioned. Government was equally concerned about the over dependency on energy imports from South Africa, especially because the country was experiencing power shortages and outages.

The prime minister also promised that several projects that would create job opportunities. This Administration’s policy, according to Dlamini, was to remove all chokepoints to opening and operating a business in the country. Several policies were approved by Government. “Government is leading in developing concepts and obtaining funding for large projects,” he said.
