MBABANE – Government is in need of an amount of E60 million to upgrade Pigg’s Peak Hotel and Casino to reach the ‘Five Star Hotel’ status.
This was revealed yesterday when Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Jane Mkhonta-Simelane visited the hotel. The hotel belongs to Government and it is under the Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs. It currently has more than 100 hotel rooms. The hotel is currently holding the status of ‘Four Star Hotel,’ according to reports from Eswatini TV.
Minister Mkhonta-Simelane, upon arrival yesterday, was shown many different parts of the hotel, including hotel rooms, kitchens, and other facilities. The minister, speaking after she made her observations, stated that Government was going to work with the board of directors of the hotel.
She said the board of directors was the one that was assigned to ensure that the hotel improved with time. The minister said whatever that needed to be improved would be communicated to the board. “The board has a task of coming up with a strategy that will enable the hotel to achieve the ‘Five Star’ status, as currently, the hotel is at the ‘Four Star’ rank,” Mkhonta-Simelane said.
Pigg’s Peak Hotel Board Chairman Malcos Sengwayo said they would diligently implement the direction they would be given by the minister. He further mentioned the need for the hotel to find its own way of retaining its staff members, especially the management, if it is to achieve its goals. He also mentioned the importance of the public-private partnership (PPP), which he believed could go a long way in improving the hotel.
