MBABANE: Great news for varsity students!

Varsity students have started to receive their allowances, which was delayed in December 2023. The Ministry of Labour and Social Security today announced that payments for student allowances are now being processed.

“The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is pleased to inform all students studying in local tertiary institutions that are supported through the Government Scholarship Programme (PTET) that payments of student allowances for the academic year 2023/24 month of December are now being processed”

According to the ministry, payments began yesterday (Thursday, January 11, 2024).

The ministry thanked the students for their cooperation and patience during this critical time.

It further assured the students of their continued commitment to `ensure their welfare.

It is worth noting that on January 2, 2024, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security issued a statement informing students about a delay in the payment of student allowances. The ministry cited that it experienced unforeseen circumstances that resulted in the delay of the student allowances.

It was shared in the statement that the ministry is working hand in hand with the Ministry of Finance to speed up the process. The minister assured students of its commitment to ensuring that their welfare is prioritized. The ministry further requested the cooperation of all the students affected and the stakeholders included. The Ministry of Labour and Social Security also stated that the inconvenience was deeply regretted.

It is worth noting that only qualifying students receive the allowance provided by the Eswatini government, which provides scholarships to qualifying students to study either in the country or outside its borders.
