SPORTS – The five taekwondo artists who won gold at the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games hosted in Malawi have received E40 000 to share by the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC).

The presentation was done by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga and ESRC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Darius Dlomo during the National Sports Awards held at the Happy Valley Hotel on Wednesday.

The junior athletes are Sihlelelwe Matsebula, Gcinumuzi Nxumalo, Sivunolesihle Dlamini, Kuye Dlamini and Hlelo Dlamini, getting E8 000 each.

The Eswatini Taekwondo Federation (ETF) President said he was happy with the performance of the youngsters lauding their participation in the last two AUSC Region 5 Youth Games in Lesotho and Malawi respectively.

In his keynote address, Bulunga said, “Excellent athletes earn a living through sport locally and internationally, thus contributing positively to the economy of the country. Moreover, the combination of excellent athletes and proper facilities attract opportunities for the country to host huge international events that in turn yield direct foreign injection.” ESRC CEO Dlomo had a special recognition and award for the council’s most outstanding employee of the previous year Lungile Dlamini, gifting her with E2 000 in what he termed the ‘Chwephesha Award’.
