MBABANE– “No one has ever become poor from giving,”

These sentiments were shared by two disc jockeys from Funtown Phasika Matsebula and Mavava.

The duo is going to host a charity event but with a twist of groove for the first time in the newly renovated Funtown in Fonteyn.

“The Charity Run is a groove with a beautiful twist, times are tough, more so on the less fortunate and with this  Charity Run,  an initiative that celebrates groove culture while making efforts to ease some socio-economic ills experienced by less fortunate Emaswati daily,” said Phasika.

In addition, he said this coming Saturday (February 25, 2023) people should really come out to help the less fortunate all the while having a good time.

“This is an event with a heart; donations are our number one priority. We are looking for any kind of donations like clothes, foodstuff, and toiletries; anything from the heart will go a long way. Bring your hearts and groove with a beautiful purpose,” said Phasika.

Dubbed ‘The Charity Run’ this event is expected to take place every three months until the end of the year, after its debut on Saturday.

The DJ, Phasika said their target market was anyone who needed it as they have tried identifying a few households that may need the donations and so forth.

“We did not intend to have gate taking, but whatever we make on the day will also help and go towards charity, whatever we feel is needed for the donations. Patrons can bring anything equivalent or even more than the E50 charge,” he said.

With the new renovations at Funtown, this kind of event is expected to make the groove culture helpful and charitable; the duo is hoping to start a lifestyle that will encourage people to give back at every given opportunity.

“We have had a lot of people come out in support of this initiative and we hope more people can come on board to help out. We are even extending the plea for help to media houses in the country, corporates and business people.

“A lot is done when people come together to do well, especially for the less privileged,” said Phasika. Worth noting is that the duo has hosted a number of house events at the aforementioned venue and has had people like Crooks, Karly  B, Christos and Wicked booked to the place.
