MBABANE – A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) known as HealthPlus 4 Men is touring the country with roadshows to educate transport operators about sexual health.
So far HealthPlus 4 Men has visited a number of bus ranks including Matata, Siteki, Mankayane, Manzini and Mbabane. On Tuesday (June 11, 2024) HealthPlus 4 Men was at Mbabane bus rank implementing one of their key populations program.
Speaking to this publication, HealthPlus 4 Men Project Officer, Britewel Els said the roadshows were for educating and encouraging the operators to access the services. He further highlighted that the campaign specifically got funding from the Global Fund, through the Coordinating Assembly of Non-Governmental Organisations (CANGO).
Operators receive services such as HIV testing, STI screening, and minor ailments such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Operators are also educated on gender-based violence (GBV) and mental health issues. “If you find that you have mental health issues you are able to get a psychologist from HealthPlus 4 Men,” said Els.
By taking control of their sexual health, transport operators are not just safeguarding their well-being, but also contributing to a healthier, more informed society.
