It was just 3.15 pm when a heavy pour blessed Buhleni and surrounding areas, and about 5 minutes later, the rain stopped leaving perfect cool condition temperatures for the widely attended ceremony.

It is common knowledge among Emaswati that rain signifies a blessing for traditional events, and this year’s Buganu Festival was no different. Members of the public did not want for cover as there was plenty of shelter in all areas of the ceremony.

His Majesty King Mswati III is anticipated to grace the ceremony as per tradition. In spite of the possibility of Cyclone Freddy reaching certain areas of Eswatini as announced by the Eswatini Meterorological Services, Emaswati still turned out in their numbers to participate in the annual national ceremony.

Culturally, the Buganu Ceremony celebrates the harvest of the first fruits in Eswatini.
