MBABANE – Big dreams.

A hawker with big dreams is appealing for financial assistance to cater for her tertiary fees at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA).

Hlobsile Zwane (35) of Kamkhokhi in Siphofaneni, who is doing her final year in Bachelor of Education at UNESWA said she could no longer afford the fees as her business was not doing well.

She stated that she was not on a government scholarship because she was doing part-time lessons. Zwane said her customers were not able to pay on time. She stated that she had been paying for her tertiary fees through her business since she started her studies.

Before becoming a hawker, she shared that she used to work as a counsellor at Sigangeni Clinic, and had also worked for Save Rite Supermarket before she lost her jobs.

Zwane stated that she last worked as an invigilator at Woodlands High School, last year.

She said she had not been able to cover her fees since her business was not doing well.

Even last year, she said she was only able to pay more than half of the fees worth E10 800. She said she still owed E4 200 to the institution.

Zwane stated that per semester, she had to pay E15 000, meaning she owed E19 200, including the outstanding fees.

“I am even unable to access online classes because I have not been registered due to the owed fees,” she said. Zwane said she had tried to look for jobs everywhere, without success. She said it was for this reason that she cried for help.

It pains me that I have to abandon my studies due to financial challenges. My family is not that supportive, they do not even believe in my studying at this age. I will not give up because I believe in pursuing my studies and I am looking forward to my Master’s Degree,” she said.
