Clad in colourful Emahiya, sneakers and adorned with different ranges of beads, maidens yesterday successfully participated in reed cutting.
Inkhosatana Princess Sakhizwe successfully led maidens in the Reed Cutting Ceremony held at Mpisi Farm.
This traditional ceremony marks an important event in Swazi culture and is eagerly anticipated by the community.
The imbali, adorned in their traditional attire, gathered amidst joyful singing and dancing to embark on this significant occasion.
Led by Princess Sakhizwe, who exuded grace and elegance, the maidens engaged in the delicate task of cutting reeds from the surrounding field under the warm Swazi sun.
The reeds, carefully selected for their strength and beauty, hold symbolic significance in the kingdom.
They are used to construct the sacred structures in the Ludzidzini Royal Residence, where the reeds will be delivered to their Majesties in the coming days.
Later today, imbali will undertake the journey back to Ludzidzini Royal Residence, carrying the freshly cut reeds with great reverence.
Following their arrival, a day of rest will be observed to ensure the reeds are prepared and arranged meticulously.
This meticulous preparation highlights the importance placed on presenting the reeds before their Majesties, who will grace the occasion with their presence.
The Reed Cutting Ceremony not only serves as a cultural celebration but also symbolises the unity and strength of the Swazi people.
“Everything is on track and the thousands of maidens seem to be enjoying every moment of the 2023 Umhlanga Ceremony. Generally, they have been well behaved since they arrived; we hope they will keep up the impressive responsible behaviour for the entire Umhlanga Ceremony,”
said one of the Imbali overseers,
It fosters a sense of pride, identity, and connection to their ancestral roots. The participation of Princess Sakhizwe in leading this significant event further reinforces her role as a custodian of Swazi customs and traditions.
Worth mentioning is that the main event of the Umhlanga Ceremony will be held on Monday.
