MBABANE – “It is not luck.”
These were Country Music singer Cleopatra Methula’s words in response to how she won the Producer’s Choice Award in the 2022 Texas Sounds Music International Music Awards in the United States this past month.
“I write music to try and inspire people to do something positive with their lives,” said Cleopatra.
She was first nominated to perform at the awards in 2019, before returning to the awards this year, where she came back with the top prize. Speaking to Kusile Breakfast Show about how she has approached her career up to the point of winning the award, Cleopatra said that country music chose her.
“I’m just doing the best I can to sing music that will touch people’s hearts, and sing music that will probably last longer than I will live – just to sing good music, you know. I started when I was a little bit younger, such that I am actually celebrating 10 years in music,” said Cleopatra.
The Imali hitmaker said that she is inspired by her music and she hopes that it inspires others.
Cleopatra has many accolades in the music industry, as she has won an Eswatini Music Award (SWAMA), and has been labeled ‘African Queen of Country Music’ by CNN. Speaking on the Producer’s Choice Award and how such recognitions come about, Cleopatra emphasised on loving what you do.
“The harder you work, someone somewhere finally looks your way, and when people love and appreciate what you do 100 per cent, they find a way to work with you and do something that will promote what they think is good,” said Cleopatra.
Cleopatra explained that people that love her music keep her going as she has received heartwarming reactions from fans in Eswatini, Africa, as well as in the United States.
Speaking about her next few steps, Cleopatra revealed that she is planning to host a show to commemorate her decade in the music, as well as to travel while making more music for the fans.
