MBABANE – Did you know that the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) contributes in growing the economy of the country?
The organisation may not be directly involved in economic activities that are meant to generate money for the country, but the nature of their mandate is the one that helps the country grows its economy. The UEDF plays a vital role in making sure that every goods entering the country are accounted for and necessary taxes paid for such goods.
This role in growing the economy was recognised by His Majesty King Mswati III today when delivering his speech during the Army Day, which was celebrated at UEDF Headquarters in Nokwane. “Soldiers, your continued vigilance along the borderline in curbing transnational crimes is highly commendable. This boosts the economy of the Kingdom by not allowing illegal goods to enter the country and evading paying tax,” said the King.
The King said he was pleased that the efforts of the soldiers were also recognised by the World Customs Organisation, an international organisation. “They awarded you a certificate of merit for rendering exceptional service to the international customs community, which is a good indication of you good work. This recognition illustrates your understanding of the fact that security is a pre-requisite for any form of development, especially border-security,” the King said.
