MBABANE– Over 1 500 children were gathered at Prince of Whales earlier today for their fun day.
Indonesian Consulate Kareem Ashraf sponsored the children’s fun day with E100 000.
Kareem Ashraf is one on the partners of the Municipal Council of Mbabane who ensure that all 1 500 children from the 10 care points have food to eat on a daily basis.
The CEO of the Municipal Council of Mbabane Gideon Mhlongo, during his deliberation, said that the council had about 10 care points where children were fed daily.
“90 per cent of the children we feed at the care points are OVC’s (Orphan and Vulnerable Children). We have more five partners who ensure that all these children are fed twice daily (breakfast and lunch) and is also part of our early childhood care programs.
“Our partners include Ashraf, World Food Program (WFP), SOS, Seven Adventist Church and Children’s Cup,” said Mhlongo.
Mhlongo further mentioned that Ashraf sponsored today’s children’s fun day with E100 000.
“The municipality does not only ensure that roads are in good condition but has a comprehensive list of programs for children. We also feed indigent households, give out food hampers and clinics for them.
“The communities where all these children come from we assist them in starting their own businesses so that they are able to sustain themselves. We also have programs for disabled children who we provide with wheelchairs and physio therapy. We have also provide children with autism with medication.
“Today the children also received gift packs which included stationery, jerseys and snacks,” said Mhlongo.
Mhlongo further mentioned that they had 105 volunteers from the Community Health Care Volunteers (CHCV) who also get monthly groceries.
