Prolific artist and promoter Jiggs Thorne has finally been cornered for a long-form podcast interview by XLR Plug with Nolo Dee.
Jiggs Thorne is most known for being the main man behind House on Fire, the annual Luju Festival, as well as the MTN Bush Fire Music Festival which was rated among the top 10 music festivals in the world by the BBC. The first and only time he appeared on a podcast interview was about two years ago in an episode of The Connect by the Pacific Institute.
Thorne was the 8th guest to be interviewed on the second season of XLR Plug with Nolo Dee.
XLR Plug is an arts podcast by local media group, Kingdom XLR (trading as XLR Media) and it aires live on Instagram every Monday at 8PM. The podcast, hosted by South African personality Nolo Dee, is on its second season this year, and Jiggs’ conversation is the penultimate one this season.
During the conversation, Thorne touched on his memories growing up in the Kingdom of Eswatini, his experiences in the international high school of Waterford Kamhlaba, the arts industry in the country, as well as his plans for the future.
Speaking to this reporter about the interview, XLR Media CEO Mzwandile Nxumalo remarked that, “With XLR plug specifically, we are celebrating the upcoming and the established movers and shakers, especially the newsworthy people in the popular culture space. These are people who are making the arts and culture fraternity better than it was before. Jiggs Thorne is the epitome of that, knowing that House on Fire is only 22 years old and in that space they have made moves which are beyond House on Fire.”
“It only made sense to document the man behind the whole vision, besides just speaking to public relations officer of Bush Fire, or maybe of MTN, or even Standard Bank for that matter. So, that was the inspiration behind the conversation.” Nxumalo added that they’re happy to have started the second season of XLR Plug with a bang and ending it with a bang as the first guest on the show this season was Sandz.
