The light-green mini-truck worth E277 000 was handed by the minister at KaShali in Manzini. The mini-truck, according to Eswatini Government, has been funded through the Eswatini Environment Fund and will be used by the cooperative to transport non-recyclable waste as part of the KaShali General Waste Management Project.

Speaking at the event, Mkhonta-Simelane said the agenda of the Ministry was to eliminate waste in all communities across the country. She said it was pleasing to learn that Journey Multipurpose Cooperative was serving 221 homesteads and with this new mini truck they would add another 150 homesteads. The minister pointed out that this development meant less waste, especially diapers, would be found in the environment. She viewed this as a positive change.

“Our target as a country is that of achieving net-zero emissions to greenhouse gases and the waste sector is one of the main areas of action we should improve on as a country. It is for this reason that I appeal to all households in here kaShali, especially landlords, to support this noble initiative to sustainable waste management,” Mkhonta-Simelane concluded.
