MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has congratulated South Africa’s President-Elect His Excellency Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa on his re-election as president of that country.

Ramaphosa was re-elected on Friday (June 14, 2024) during a National Assembly sitting. This was necessitated by the fact that South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC) could not poll above 50 percent in this year’s national elections in South Africa.

This means it has to be in a coalition government with parties such as the Democratic Alliance (DA), Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), and the Patriotic Alliance (PA), according to reports from South African media and other international media outlets. This means members of these other parties will have to be part of the national government of South Africa.

Speaking about the re-election, His Majesty the King hoped that the relations between Eswatini and South Africa would continue to be strengthened for the benefit of the people from both countries. The King spoke through Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini, who released a statement yesterday (Sunday, June 16, 2024).

Speaking on behalf of the King, Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, Eswatini Government, and Emaswati, Dlamini hoped that under Ramaphosa, South Africa’s Government would flourish. The prime minister also hoped that the two countries would maintain peace, if they continued working together.

“We join the world in congratulating the South African nation for successful elections, especially during the period of uncertainty in the world. We express firm belief that the cordial relations between our nations will continue to be strengthened and enhanced for the benefit of our peoples,” Dlamini said.
