BY DELISA THWALA – His Majesty King Mswati III has extended the Cabinet minister’s term of Office.
Ministers will now only vacate office on September 27, 2023. Which falls on a Wednesday.
This is after the King extended the continuation of Cabinet ministers in office to September 25, 2023.
This was done through a government gazette issued by Attorney General Sifiso Mashampu Khumalo.
This means that all 18 Cabinet ministers are continuing to execute their duties as per the provision of the Constitution.
Worth noting is that the 11th Parliament was dissolved with immediate effect. The dissolution of Parliament occurred while the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) was busy conducting the voter validation exercise.
On September 29, 2023, communities will be electing candidates for the secondary elections.
When the King announced the dissolution of the 11th Parliament, nothing was said about Cabinet ministers.
Some individuals had anticipated that the dissolution will also include Cabinet ministers as some said it had always been the norm that whenever Parliament was dissolved, His Majesty was left with a team he would work with to wrap up government business.
In 2013, when the King dissolved the 9th Parliament, there was an announcement of a committee which was known as a council of ministers, which he referred to as ‘sigejana’ , that was to hold the fort while a new government was being elected into office.
Meanwhile, Nxumalo, said all ministers were executing their respective duties as per the provision of the Constitution.
