MBABANE – South African award-winning YouTuber artist, actor, and media personality star King Ginger was a guest at the What’s The Story Eswatini podcast episode 9.
King Ginger was interviewed Banele WJLM. The brain behind the new podcast is Thabo Masilela. The series was uploaded to YouTube yesterday at 6 p.m. The series lasted for an hour, five minutes, and thirty seconds. By the time of compiling this article, it had been viewed 5,000 times.
The host mentioned at the beginning of the interview that King Ginger was supposed to have done the interview two weeks ago. He also thanked him for the best introduction to his podcast ever.
Born Mzwandile Ngwenya, he shared his story of how he grew up in Umlazi, Durban, KwaZulu Natal, his love for shoes, and his love for acting and singing before he became famous. He also said that while growing up, he was told that being outspoken would one day make money for him. He also shared that before he changed his stage name to King Ginger, he was Dr. Muffin. He said that the name came from his love for muffins, and he knew there was no reference to that name in Johannesburg but had to change it later on to King Ginger.
King Ginger caused a stir on social media when he posted a picture of himself in Eswatini on Valentine’s Day last week. Some social media users were intrigued by the timing of his visit because of his YouTube show titled Niyathembana na? On the show couples are asked if they still trust each other and other relationship questions.
What’s the story Eswatini, a new podcast, has made quite an entry into the digital space. It was launched last month, but they have managed to reach over 31,000 people, according to Masilela.
The podcast team shoots once a week on Sundays at the Tattoo Palace. Each session varies on how long it last from 47 minutes to over an hour.. The podcast started on the first weekend of January. So far, they have interviewed eight people namely Gogo Phondo, Illa Penboy Jumbo Khumalo and Angel Nelly which had the highest view of 32 000. They use the Tattoo Palace as a studio.
When asked what topics they tackle, he said, “It depends on the person we are interviewing at that particular moment and what they really do or what they’re known for. We develop a conversation based on that.”
When asked how they came up with the questions for the guests, he shared with this publication that they interviewed their guests based on the requests of people in their comment sections.
According to Masilela emaSwati are slowly embracing the new podcast and getting used to it, as they have managed so far to reach 31k views in a space of a month. Their recent guest was Christian Flex.
The podcaster shared with this publication that so far they have not monetized their podcast, but they are getting sponsorship from Tattoo Palace, Mdzimba View, and Sundeck, which they are grateful for.
