MBABANE – His Majesty King Mswati III has expressed gratitude to the United Nations (UN) for its support to the Kingdom’s pursuit on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Kings’ acknowledgment was share by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prince Simelane during the commemoration of the 78th United Nations Day held at Mhubhe High School.
The event focused on the support extended by the United Nations to enhance Eswatini’s resilience in achieving SDG.
With seven years remaining before the 2030 deadline, Eswatini is intensifying efforts to expedite the implementation of these goals.
During this year’s United Nations General Assembly in New York, King Mswati III submitted a comprehensive recovery and acceleration plan.
The plan aims to empower countries to meet the 2030 deadline, and King Mswati III emphasized Eswatini’s commitment to increased cooperation with the United Nations over the next seven years.
“We are pleased that the United Nation has been consistent in supporting our development efforts and working with us in uplifting the standard of living of all EmaSwati. We acknowledged the support of the United Nations in responding to our call for eradication of poverty this is clearly a priority issue as it was well articulated during the people parliament where Emaswati personally expressed their concerns on these matters that inform the attainment of sustainable development goals,” said Prince Simelane.
Meanwhile, United Nations Resident Coordinator for Eswatini George Wachira, commended His Majesty King Mswati lll for being one of only eight African leaders to submit a sustainable development goal recovery and acceleration plan, requiring E30 billion for implementation.
“We are proud of the partnership with his Majesties’ government that helps us to contribute to better lives for children, women, communities, our young people and care for our environment. We applaud His Majesty King III for Eswatini very strong showing at the General Assembly in New York in September. I have had occasion to recount in other media that in terms of submitting the SDG acceleration plan, Eswatini was only one of only eight countries in Africa that did so. Eswatini is in good books, what we need to do now is with this acceleration plan is to translate it into action,” said George Wachira.
He stressed the need to translate the submitted plan into action for the benefit of Eswatini’s citizens and the environment.
