President-elect Lai prepared an easy outing with the King and other leaders where they went fishing, in what is one of the popular sports in Taiwan.

For his prowess, President-elect Lai handed His Majesty the King a trophy to remind him of his exploits whilst visiting Taipei ahead of the inauguration ceremony.

This was the first meeting of the King with President Lai, who takes over the reigns from outgoing President Tsai Ing-wen who became Taiwan’s first female president.

In fact, the morning meeting between the King and President-elect Lai preceded an evening welcome banquet prepared by President Tsai.

Meanwhile, the president-elect had a welcome reception for his guests who came from around the world, the USA, the UK, and Eswatini, which is the only African country still having diplomatic relations with Taiwan. But there were also delegates from Somaliland and many from the Pacific who still have diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
